PLACES TO VISIT
The Surat Fort : The fort of Surat was built in year 1540-41 by Khudawand Khan primary with a view to protect the city from the foreign aggression it is an ancient monument constructed during 16th century. The width of the wall was 4.06 meters. It is constructed at the bank of river Tapi.
Surat Castle : In 1540, Sultan Mahmud III had this castle built with extra strength for protection against Portugese raids. It is now filled with government offices, but you can go up to the top for a marvelous view of the city and Tapi river.
European Tomb : Europeans erected grand mausoleums instead of the normal tombstones in Europe.

Chintamani Jain Temple: Jain temple This temple, built under the reign of Emperor Aurangzeb at the end of the 17th century, has a deceivingly simple exterior, but is remarkably crafted from inside, the beautiful vegetable dye paintings covering the wooden pillars topped with carved brackets.
Mughalsarai: This sarai, or guest house, was constructed in mid 17th century under Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan for pilgrims en route to Mecca, and briefly served as a jail in 1857. The finely crafted archways and dome now stand over the Surat Municipal Corporation offices.
Veer Narmad saraswati Mandir: Poet Vir Narmad (1833-86), author of ‘Jai Jai Garvi Gujarat’ and some other famous Gujarati poems, lived in this quaint house built in 1866, now restored as a memorial. Narmad actively advocated a single national language, self-governance and created literary works that sparked off an era of social reform. During the freedom struggle, freedom fighters and artists used to gather here.
Gopi talao: This lake is named after Gopi, credited with the rise of the city.

Parsi Agiari : This is the main Fire Temple of the city, with the sacred flame. There are also other less central temples around the city. Non-parsis are not allowed to enter, as in all Parsi fire temples.

Somnath Mahadev (Veraval) : The Somnath Temple located in the Prabhas Kshetra near Veraval in Saurashtra, on the western coast of Gujarat, India, is the most sacred of the twelve Jyotirlinga shrines of the God Shiva. Somnath means "The Protector of (the) Moon God". The Somnath Temple is known as "the Shrine Eternal", having been destroyed six times and rebuilt six times. Dwarkadhish Temple : The Dwarakadheesh temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Krishna, who is worshipped here by the name Dwarkadhish, or 'King of Dwarka'. Kayavarohan: Kayavarohan is a village in the Vadodara district. Kayavarohan is popularly known as Karvan and is situated on the National Highway No. 8 at a distance of 30 km from Vadodara. The village and its surrounding areas are of great archeological significance. The ruins of a Shiva Temple that was as sacred as the Kashi (Jyotirlingas) during later Vedic times is found here. Ancient sculptures and relics belonging to the 2nd century have been excavated from this place. |
Lothal : A full-fledged Harappan settlement was discovered at Lothal and similar Harappan centres at Rangpur, Rozdi and other places in Saurashtra and Kutch. Lothal is the name given to a mound near Saragwala, a village in Ahmedabad district. The excavations at the site have brought to light a well-planned city with rows of houses. All the discoveries prove that the city must have been a commercial centre and a part carrying on commerce with the interland as well as foreign countries. |
Modhera : The sun temple at Modhera in Mehsana districts, in north Gujarat, built during the reign of the Solanki king Bhimdev I near a village of the same name, represents one of the most magnificent monuments of Gujarat. Kirti Mandir : Porbandar which is a seaside town in Saurashtra was the birth place of the Father of Nation. It has also a mythological association . Lord Krishna's classmate, Sudama hailed from this place. The town was formerly known as Sudamapuri. The house where Mahatma Gandhi was born has been turned into a national monument Kirti Mandir . The memorial contains within it a library of books on Gandhism.

The Gir Forest National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary (also known as Sasan-Gir), is a forest and wildlife sanctuary in Gujarat, India. Established in 1965, with a total area of 1412 km² (about 258 km² for the fully protected area (the National Park) and 1153 km² for the Sanctuary), the park is located 65 km to the south-east of Junagadh and 60 km to south west of Amreli. It is the sole home of the pure Asiatic Lions (Panthera leo persica) and is considered to be one of the most important protected areas in Asia due to its supported species. |
